One of my top five favorite films of all time is Tod Browning’s Freaks.
I loved how the film showed the family aspect of the sideshow characters and how they come through for each other when it’s needed.
When I heard that American Horror Story was doing a freak show theme this year, I had a feeling it was going to be the best season yet. And now that I have seen the first episode, I know it’s going to be the best season yet!
American Horror Story continues its format of bring in the same actors to play different roles. Jessica Lange continues to steal the show with her dominant characters and Sarah Paulson returning in a strong supporting role (this time playing two roles as Siamese twins).
There is one thing this opening episode brought that literally gave me a nightmare that night. The clown!
I knew what I was getting into when I watched the episode. I knew there would be a clown. Yet, the scene with the clown was hardcore terrifying.
If you saw the episode then you know what I mean and if you didn’t… you’re lucky.
The episode ended with a reminder to why I love Browning’s Freaks so much. Despite their differences and complicated lives, the freaks stick together.
I’m looking forward to more of what this season has to offer and I’m hoping the clown stops scaring the poop out of me.
