When I do my 31 Days of Halloween posts every year I always try to kick it off with something special. This year I thought I would go back to the basics and re-watch the horror documentary Going to Pieces: The Rise and Fall of the Slasher Film.
I have a great appreciation for slasher films. Without them I probably would not have developed such a strong palate for horror movies.
Going to Pieces examines the history of the slasher films. The doc explores the height of the genre while also touching on the unsuccessful films that cast an ugly shadow over the years.
I love that this doc covers everything I love about slasher films- the gory bits, holiday movies, the “before they were famous” stars and unappreciated gems.
Watching Going to Pieces again not only rekindled my love for horror movies but it also reminded me that they are still so many good and bad slasher films I haven’t seen yet. Yeah, I can’t believe it either!
Starting off the month with this doc has inspired me to not just sit down and watch movies just to watch movies, but to remember to enjoy them like I used to when I was a kid.
