Friday Film Recommendations: Aug 19th

Happy Friday Everyone!
It’s another week of Friday Film recs, so queue up your streaming devices for my picks of this week.

Here’s what’s available via Netflix
The Reef
When their yacht is capsized in shark infested waters, a group of friends brave the open sea hoping to reach safety before it’s too late.
A few weeks ago, I saw that a writer on Ain’t it Cool News put this movie on the same level as Jaws. This intrigued me so seeing it available via Instant Watch, I needed to make the comparison for myself.
It was hard for me to believe that any movie could be put up against Jaws but I will make the comparison that The Reef is much like Open Water or a lot less boring and more gruesome. In this you actually get to see the shark and you get to see blood. It was a terrifying movie.

Gothika
After a car crash, a psychologist awakens in a mental hospital. She finds out that she brutally murdered her husband yet she has no memory of it. She unfolds the mystery of a ghost that haunts her and may have something to do with her husband’s murder. Dun dun dunnnn.

Four Rooms
On a crazed New Year’s Eve night, a bellboy deals with a wide range of crazy people and strange situations throughout four different hotel rooms.

I love this zainy little film and each story is done by a different director. Psst, Robert Rodriquez’s story is my favorite of the 4.

And You Thought Your Parents Were Weird
Two boys create a voice activated robot with a mind of it’s own. They discovered that their dead dad’s spirit poessessed the robot so poof, it’s like he totally didn’t die at all. Score!
Think Ghost Dad, only with a robot…oh and the dad isn’t in a coma, he’s for reals dead.

Shark Week: The Great Bites Collection
Even though Shark Week is official over, you can still watch this collection of people swimming with sharks and studying their habits and attacks.

Have a great weekend everyone!
