One of my favorite things about Halloween (even more than the candy and the potential of dressing like a whore and getting away with it) is all the movies that pop up on different channels and such.
Today I was able to revisit Tobe Hopper’s Invaders from Mars because of this wonder season of horror movies.
I don’t think I’ve seen this movie in at least 20 years. I also think this was my first “invasion” movie so it completely freaked me at my young, unknowing age.
Little boy David sees a UFO crash by his home and suddenly his parents and all the townsfolk are being taken over by mind controlling aliens. With the help of the school nurse (Karen Black) and U.S. soldiers, they get together to kill off the aliens and get their town back yo!
I forgot how kind of goofy this remake was but I still found it as enjoyable from when I was like 10 years-old. The one thing that I cannot let go, all these years later is….the teacher eating the frog scene. I literally starting choking and gagging when I watched this scene again. It still completely bothers me and I don’t think I’m going to be able to shake it, even if it’s another 20 years.
It was fun to watch this again (minus the one scene) so I’m glad this was randomly on a Showtime channel and I can’t wait to see what else I come across in this wonderful month of October.
