Lately I’ve been in a major mood to watch An American Werewolf in London again and today just had to be the day.
Writer/director John Landis brings this story about two American guys, David and Jack, traveling in Britain on a walking tour. They are attacked by a werewolf, Jack is killed and David is badly injured.
David is brought to London to heal and he notices some changes in his recovery process…psst…it’s werewolf changes!
After doing films like The Blues Brothers and Animal House, Landis took on the challenge of doing a “horror” film yet he still incorporated comedy elements. Things like David’s dream sequence and my personal favorite, the porno scene lightened the fact that David was a furious killer werewolf.
Another thing I have to mention is the incredible transformation scene. This film is 20 years old and still I think “wow, this friggin’ awesome” every time I watch that scene.
This film isn’t just about a dude becoming a werewolf but it’s also a cautionary tale of stay off the moors andddd…..beware of the moon!!!
