Nightmare on Elm St. 3: Dream Fuckin’ Warriors!

On to one of my personal faves, Dream Warriors! Or as I like to sing along to Dokken it’s the “Motherfuckin’ Dream Warriors” Hey, I blame Old School

So here, we have the return of Nancy. She’s semi-well adjusted and helping kids in a psych ward with their dreams. Nancy faces the last of the Elm St. kids, one Kristen, has the ability to bring people into her dreams. Nancy thinks “hey, that’s awesome, let’s all hang out in your dreams and like, kill Freddy and stuff.” Only not in those exact words.

As kids are being killed off. The final three, Kincaid, Kristen and Joey pull their strengths together to defeat him. Unfortunately *spoiler alert* we lose Nancy in the process. A big, drawn out, over dramatic, jazz hands “Nnnnnooooooooooooooooo.” I don’t remember being so upset since finding out that Santa wasn’t real.

I don’t know why this movie one of the awesomest of the series but the song definitely helps. The Warriors taught us that we had control over our dreams and we could be anything we wanted. If we wanted to still be nerds but yet have wizard master powers. Poof, we got it. If we wanted to have a faux hawk and switch blades. Poof again. Personally, I would want to power to, I don’t know…kill Freddy forever with the snap of my finger, but meh, I guess that’s a little too specific for dream land. Fuck you, dream land.

The survivors rejoice in knowing that once again, Freddy is dead and they can finally get some sleep. Well, until the next sequel.

Best Kill:

Jennifer vs. the Tv

Jennifer always wanted to be on tv and well, instead Freddy put her in it. Hehe. This Freddy death has also been memorable to me because as a child, I watched a lot of tv and it made me think if Freddy was going to kill me, this is how it’s gonna go down. I guess even now if Freddy were to kill me, it would be a tv to my face bit because I still watch too much tv.

I have to catch Dream Warriors again!

One analysis I read before yours said that the difference between those who survived and those who didn't was the acceptance of reality. Those whose dream selves are very different from their waking selves (or their perception of their waking selves) don't have what it takes to defeat Freddy, but those who “keep it real” are able to stand up to him.

But as I've said, I'd have to see the movie again to decide for myself.
