Friday Film Recommendations: April 9th

Happy Friday Folks! Looking for some movies to watch this weekend. Well, hey! you came to the right place. Here’s this week’s FFR.

Donnie Darko
I’m sure everyone’s has seen
Donnie Darko at one point in their lives. Back in the day it was a much hyped up film and with weird occurrences and and “ohhh ok” kind of ending. And if by chance you haven’t seen it, here’s the syposis:

Donnie Darko, a troubled teen is haunted by visions of a man in a rabbit suit who tells him the world is going to end in 28 days.

This film opened the door to Richard Kelly’s weirder movies such as Southland Tales (I didn’t think it was too bad) and The Box (had potential to be creepy and interesting but failed on both at the end.) I think Kelly will always have to live up to D.D. and so far, he hasn’t quite matched it.

Some of my friends told me this was a good one so after seeing it availalbe on watch instantly, I decided to check it out.

A group of friends sail out in the open ocean and end up entangled in the Bermuda Triangle during a mysterious storm. The group come across a boat and feel like they are saved but some freaky shit goes down and someone on the boat is trying to kill them. Dun Dun Dun.

This movie reminded me a lot of Timecrimes. If you haven’t seen it, I’d recommend that one as well, especially for anyone into time traveling movies.

Oral Fixation
Going to the dentist is never a fun experience, well, unless your dentist is super hot and you’re a masochist.

Rachel Marks is obsessed with her dentist. She chips her teeth, pull some out, anything else just to visit him. Too bad for her, the dentist is married and happy. That doesn’t stop her from trying to fuck up his life and make him realize that he’s in love with her damnit!

This is not a great movie but I think I would catergorize this as “bad but entertaining”

Cool as Ice
My non-horror pick of the week. Ok,maybe it could be considered horror depending on how you look at it.

So I saw this listed, my friend happens to be in love with this movie so I thought, “How bad could this be?” Oh man, I felt like someone dropped kick my ovaries. The acting, the dancing, the singing, it was like a mixed bag of crap. But you know what (chicken butt) it was good fun. I laughed a lot. It wasn’t during things I was supposed to laugh at, but laughing is a damn cheap thrill. Get a group of friends and some beer and check this shit out yo.

Watch Now
X-Files: First Season
Got an hour? Watch the X-Files from the beginning. It will make you want to believe. Yeah, I know, that was corny even for me. Wa-wa.

Watch Now

American Psycho 2
If there were a watered down verison of
American Psycho, taking out the wall to wall sex and gore, it would American Psycho 2. This sequel may not hold up to the first film and it’s a little bit cheesy but I liked it a lot. Mila Kunis is awesome and people, The Shatner is in! Win!

Watch Now

The Crew (1994)

I’m currently watching this now. I was slightly sold by the list of actors in it: Donal Logue, Viggo Mortensen and Jeremy Sisto. but I’m currently at the point where I’m not sure what the hell I’m watching. Well, I’m recommended this because 1. I have nothing left on the Fearnet list to recommend, and 2. Hey, the list of actors in it are cool, even though Jeremy Sisto’s accent is making me want to punch him in the face. But currently, though I’m confused, it may end up getting better. Maybe. Watch if you want, compare notes later.
