Corey Haim: My Favorite of the Coreys

Today, along everyone else, I found out that Corey Haim passed away at the age of 38.

My heart broke and I flashed to when I met him last year at Fango L.A. I would never admit this any other time but now, but back in the day, I was on Team Haim.

During my tweens years, all my friends were so in love with The New Kids on the Block. They had back packs, tees, pencil sets, bedroom sets and everything in between. I, on the other hand, had Corey pics splatter on my walls and I even ranked up a hefty phone bill calling the 1-900- “Coreys hotline” Yeah, there, my secret is out.

Horror fans know Corey’s work from the legendary The Lost Boys and his other roles in Watchers and Silver Bullet. My fan girl-dom for him starting later during License to Drive and Dream a Little Dream.

As he got older and drugs and misery followed, it was good to see The Coreys reunite in the A&E show The Two Coreys. Feldman got his shit together and it was sad but hopeful to see Haim struggle to get back in the light. It was apparent that over the years he had fallen hard but it was encouraging to see him want to be better and put the past behind him.

To now know that the cause of death was due to an overdose is heart breaking. The battle on drugs overcame him and now us fans are left to mourn our memories of Corey Haim.

  1. It was a nice tribute. He was on an episode of Big Wolf On Campus a few years ago and he played as a vampire version of himself or something like that. I just kept thinking, damn, it's Corey Haim as a vampire fighting a werewolf. Nonetheless, a very cool tribute.
