Friday Film Recommendations: Feb 26th

Have Friday ya’ll. Ready for some Friday Film Recommendations? Well, too bad! Here they are:

Signs

Alien invasion movies are awesome. Throw in crazy crop circles and video encounters and you got Signs. I wasn’t a big fan of the “message” in the end even though I’m a big believer in “signs” and such but meh, I still think this movie rocks. The two things I loved about this movie was first, the scene with Joaquin Phoenix in the closet (hehe) watching the news and seeing footage of one of the aliens. That scene gave me the jeebies! The second scene is when they are all in the basement. I love that the world was basically ending outside the door. We know nothing about what’s going on in the world, who’s winning, we have to drawn our own conclusion and we see what this family sees and only know what they know.

Patrick

Patrick is a psychopath in a coma. Once he gets a hot new nurse, he uses his psychic magical powers to harass her and make her life hell. Pfft, typical male.

I don’t know what bothered me more about this movie, Patrick’s desperate need for a hand job or his uni-brow.

This is on the remake list so check it out before then.

Special

My non-horror pick of the week.

An ordinary man with a mundane life enrolls in a drug study for an anti-depressant. He experiences the side-effect of thinking he has super powers. His fake abilities lead him to believe that he should be a Super Hero!

I love the concept of this movie because I have too many “in rut” moments in my life and yes, to feel special, different from the rest, is a nice feeling. Zen.

Lo

A broken-hearted guy summons a demon to help him find his girlfriend who was taken away by another demon. What I thought was going to be a straight up serious movie ended up being something you would think Joss Whedon and Sam Raimi did together.

This has some Faust flair and hit my girl side with mixing love with horror. The guy finds out things about his girl that would make a normal guy say “eh, fuck this shit, I’m out.” But he still loves her and is willing to give up his soul and go to hell to be with her. *sniffle*

Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog

Got an hour? Well, you only really need like 46 minutes.

I can’t believe it took me so long to see this! NPH singing, Nathan Fillion in a tight shirt… singing… Hello. Joss Whedon can do no wrong in my book.

Frontiere(s)

It’s been a while since I’ve seen this but I remember thinking it reminded me of a French Texas Chainsaw Massacre-esque. I also remembering thinking it was awesome so maybe you will too!

Bloody Mallory

I haven’t seen it this but when I saw it listed on FearNet, I thought, hey, it’s the end of “Women in Horror” Month so this is my “Hey, it’s the end of Women in Horror month” selection.

Have a great weekend!

  1. I need to check out Frontiers and Lo.

Signs is actually my favorite M. Night … film. Actually part of what made it work for me was the message at the end but that's me.

    Good picks!

  2. I though I was going to do a post about how I need to see signs, but when I saw NPH on your list….

Doctor Horrible = love. I've seen it a good 4-5 times, know all the words, etc etc. I *heart* it with pretty much every fiber of my being. And you know how much I love me some NPH.

  3. Gory- I know that message was needed to pull everything together but I thought the message itself was a bit dumb ans BJ mentions the “swing away” thing.

Softy, I was disappointed in myself for waiting so long to see it. I myself could have been singing the songs more often and adding it to my IPod.

  4. +JMJ+

I'm intrigued by Lo. The combination of those hideous demons and that happy music is something else! LOL

My own impression is Faust plus Orpheus . . . but maybe that's just the music again. 😉
