31 Days of Halloween-Day 2: Psycho (1960)

Have you ever had one of those moments when you were in the shower and felt like maybe someone was standing on the other side of curtain? Or maybe just once or twice you’ve walked into a bathroom and for just a fleeting moment, you check behind the shower curtain to see if someone was in there? Yeah you have, don’t lie.

The root of that feeling we have may come from the infamous shower scene in Psycho. I can believe that there are people out there who have not seen Psycho or even the lame remake. But I can’t believe that anyone out there doesn’t know the shower scene.

This movie is a classic, not only because of the shocking ending but the convincing performance of Anthony Perkins, the memorable music score and of course, the shower scene.

Anthony Perkins is just amazing and creepy all at the same time. He brought a lot of depth and ease to such a complex role.

If you’re never seen this don’t read on (and run out and get your hands on it!)

The end of the movie/the twist had a major impact on people of the 60’s. They were used to horror movies with monster, vampires and ghosts but here’s a seemingly normal guy who busts out in drag because he thinks he’s his whore-hating mother.

Hitchcock has made a lot of incredible films but I think Psycho is something he will always be remembered for.

  1. I think the Martin Balsam scene – both the interview and the demise – is really amazing. Most people know the shower scene but people forget that scene on the stairs so it's always nice to see people react to that one.
