Cell: The Miniseries

When I first read Stephen King’s Cell, the first 10-15 pages grabbed me by the balls and took me for a ride. If you’ve read the book, you know what part I’m talking about. I’m pretty sure at some point I said “HOLY SHIT!” out loud. From that point on, I tried to imagine this book into a movie. I think at the time I read this, it was already announced that Eli Roth would be attached to the do the adaptation. I enjoyed the Hostel films and I know Eli is all about the gore so I thought that he could pull off that great opening scene and put his heart into it.

It’s been recently announced that Eli Roth has pulled out of the project and now John Harrison is now writing a four-hour miniseries for Cell.

Harrison recently worked on Clive Barker’s Book of Blood and he also wrote and directed episodes of Tales from the Darkside and composed music of Tales from the Darkside: The Movie and Creepshow.

Harrison stated that he does not see this as a zombie story but more of a Village of the Damned esque chiller.” I didn’t think of Cell as a zombie story but like 28 Days/Weeks Later, people will argue about it being zombies or an infection, blah blah blah.

Honestly I don’t care. I enjoyed the book, I thought the ending was meh but it’s the opening scene that will sell me. It needs to be done right. I want to watch it, have it grab me by the balls and I want to say “HOLY SHIT!” all over again.

I will write more about the series when more information becomes available.
