Horror-ish Music Videos

I’m writing two post today inspired by other blogs. This first post is inspired by my friend Barry’s music blog at Hightower and Jones: The Sophisticated Nightspot for Dancing.

After playing Everlong a lot on Rock Band 2, it made me think about not only how much I really love the song but the video too. So I made a list of horror-ish/scary (to me) videos. Most of them are really associating to horror stuff but still. And for the record, I’m REFUSE to list Thriller, just because I know I can be more creative. Also let me know if there is anything I’m missing or something that freaked you out/scared you/reminded you of something horror-ish. So here goes.

1. Foo Fighters- Everlong (just because I mentioned it first)

Directed by Michel Gondry, this video reminds me a lot of Evil Dead, for very obvious reasons but I really love how it’s kind of gritty, campy and satirical it is to horror movies.

2. Tom Petty- Last Dance With Mary Jane

So this video isn’t scary or directly horror-ish, well, maybe some people find it a bit “sick” but hey I think it’s sweet! So I’m not 100 percent sure if this even related, but this video always reminded me of Edgar Allen Poe’s Annabelle Lee. I remember reading it in high school and knowing exactly what Poe was trying to say just by thinking of this video.

3. Tom Petty- Don’t Come Around Here No More

Ok, so here’s another Tom Petty on, only this one creeped me the fuck out when I first saw it. Let it be known that I am a BIG fan of Alice in Wonderland. It is hands-down my favorite Disney movie. I must have seen it a billion times when I was a kid so it has an eternal special place in my heart. So with that said, here is a video of Alice in Fuck-Up-Land. Ok, so Tom Petty himself is kinda scary alone but with this twisted version of Alice, and in the end when everyone is eating her. Dude, that’s fucked up.

4. Bjork- Human Behavior

Here we have another Michel Gondry video and another fairy tale-esque theme. I think this is actually the first time I’ve seen this entire video. I remember seeing a clip of this during Beavis and Butthead and seeing the big fuzzy bear running through the hills made me want to spit out my soda and scream “Ahhhhh” a la Beavis.

5. Metallica- One

So again, this is directly “scary” but it reminds me of an episode of the Twilight Zone called Eye of the Beholder. This one chick is getting endless amounts of operations to try to get her face to look like everyone else and during the entire episode up until the end her face is completely covered and everyone else’s face is cleverly hidden to us as the audience. Once the chick’s bandages come off we find out that…her face is normal…dun dun dun…. and everyone else has a fucked up face dun dun dunnnnn and the fucked up face…is considered normal in their world….dunnnnnnnnn.

5. The Cars- You Might Think
Simply because this video glorifies stalking, it creeps me out.

6. Soundgarden- Black Hole Sun

So people in general freak me out, people smiling all the time, ok that’s pretty scary, what can anyone have to smile about all the time, people in general smiling all the time with some fucked up looking faces….ahhhhhhh!!!!!! Great song, scary fuckin’ video!

And that’s all I could come up with for now. Keep on rocking folks.

  1. You MUST watch the movie Metallica used for the clips for One. It's based off the (excellent) book by the same name, Johnny Got His Gun. You can watch the whole thing on YouTube. It's…yeah…wow. Disturbing and scary as hell. Also, ❤ Tom Petty's freaky videos.

  2. Oh my god, someone else who found Don’t Come Around Here No More creepy. Damn, that a weird video. Another video that’s really creepy is Rockit by Herbie Hancock. Scared me shitless as a kid and still scares me.
