Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan

I don’t know why, but I’ve always really enjoy this one. I think because Jason is out of Crystal Lake and roaming the city of New York. I guess in a way when I was a kid and watched this, I thought it that it didn’t matter if I never went Crystal Lake, Jason could come to my city and still attack me!

So this is my first time watching this in a long time and I picked up on a few things that triggered some questions. When the remaining survivors of the ship arrive to New York,  Jason chases after them all through the city. When it’s down to the final girl and the leading male, Jason goes through the city, pushing people out of his way to get to them. Ok…let’s say he gets to them and kills them…then what? Is he planning on swimming back to Crystal Lake waiting for more people to stumble along? Does he hang out in New York? It made me wonder what his true motivation is as a killer. He wants to kill people on his turf and/or get pay back for his mother’s death but why travel on a ship to kill people? Things get a bit worse as far as the Jason story goes in Jason Goes to Hell, apparently his family get involved and well…. I’ll get into that on Thursday.

  1. I’ve always had a special place in my heart for Part VIII too. I know I probably shouldn’t enjoy it as much as I do but I do. I even saw it twice in the theatre. The second time as part of a double feature with Nightmare On Elm St. 5. Those were the days.

  2. Instead of rebooting the series they should have just had Jason going to more places. They couldn’t have run out with space (it is the final frontier though). They should have made <>Jason in Jason<>, about Jason killing tiny Jasons on a planet made out of Jason.
